View Program

Philosophy, Religion, and Liberal Studies provides the foundation of a well-rounded Liberal Arts education.  The mission of the PALS program is to educate students to become informed, engaged, and ethically responsible citizens of the world through our offerings in the core curriculum; the major and minor in Philosophy; the major in Liberal Studies; the minors in Africana Studies, Black Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Women’s Studies; and courses in Religious Studies.

Courses and co-curricular activities emphasize global perspectives and awareness of diversity in historical and contemporary contexts. The Philosophy and Liberal Studies programs develop and enhance the student's ability to think critically and provides a strong foundation in the skills necessary to succeed in a wide variety of workplaces and graduate programs.

John E. Sallstrom Scholarship

The John E. Sallstrom '94HA Endowed Scholarship in Ethics and Philosophy is a scholarship for rising juniors, who are majoring in Philosophy and exhibit involvement in related extracurricular activities. Preference is given to students with demonstrated financial need.

2023 winner, Emily Wright: "Winning the Sallstrom Scholarship last spring was so special for me! It gave me confidence in my work as a philosophy student and made me feel seen and recognized by my professors. I chose to be a philosophy major in the pre-law concentration in order to build critical thinking, writing, and argumentative skills for law school. However, two years in, philosophy means so much more to me. I’ve learned so much about different topics, such as aesthetics, genocide, and environmental ethics, whilst developing my own views on the world around me. My classes in philosophy have given me the opportunity to engage with students of all different backgrounds and participate in conversations about complex issues of today’s world. The philosophy program at Georgia College has provided me with so many opportunities even outside the classroom: I recently had a paper accepted into the Georgia Philosophical Society’s annual conference! The knowledge I’ve gained in this program will not only aid me in law school, but in every aspect of my career and personal life moving forward."
